"Let us take the children away from the streets, away from the drugs and crime"

Minister of Arts & Culture

We need your 'Project Sponsorship" to assist in our work to achieve this.

What we do...

Izivunguvungu provides sailing for the benefit of the youth from disadvantaged communities. The general development & educational progress is also prioritised in cooperation with the schools, guardians & community workers.  Commencing in Grade 4 or 5 the aims include ensuring skills development appropriate to at least the level of an accomplished amateur. Sailing & boat building may provide job opportunities.  It is hoped others will have the chance for a secure future, either via False Bay College or our own courses in wood, metal, fiberglass and paintspraying work, helping towards a job opportunity or self-employment.

Izi Duck to the Rescue

April 20, 2023
Today the Izivunguvungu staff, Kenny, Kader and Eldred, proudly took possession of their new safety boat, Izi Duck. Huge thanks go to SA Sailing Western Cape for selling it to us on favorable terms in the interests of developing sailing, The Boating Shed for servicing and repairing it to its former glory and most importantly Randcivils whose generous sponsorship made this project possible.
As it is exam time for most of our students, sailing takes a bit of a back seat.  We did however manage to get out on the water on Wednesday evening with False Bay Yacht Club on our keelboat and on Saturday when we sailed our Bosun Dinghies.  We are keen to foster closer relations with FBYC and had a beneficial meeting with their committee.
The Cape doctor was in full swing this past week and as a result we were not able to safely get out on the water.  The students had looked forward to sailing False Bay Yacht Club's L26 Kayo in the Wednesday night racing but unfortunately racing was also cancelled due to the high winds.  As a result we focused on maintenance around the sailing centre and to our fleet of Mirror dinghies.
The big news of the week is that we were donated a quarter tonner!  The boat was brought back to Simonstown on our L26 trailer where we will be restoring her.  We continued to work on our Mirror racing dinghies in preparation for the TSC Classic first weekend of December and got some sailing in on the L26 and the Bosuns.
As the weather was not conducive, we did not get out on the water much this week but spent the time doing maintenance on our Mirror dinghies in preparation for the upcoming regattas in December.  A handful of our sailors did get to participate in the FBYC's Wednesday evening racing and we hope to enter Donna Mia in these races on a regular basis going forward.
We started off the week with some sailing on the Bosuns before moving Donna Mia to one of the FBYC moorings while we waited for the crane to lift her out of the water.  We assisted the Navy maintenance team with a cleanup of West Yard on Saturday.  A few of our students sailed at the Eden District Championships at George Lakes Yacht Club over the weekend where they did us proud.
