The big news of the week is that we were donated a quarter tonner! The boat was brought back to Simonstown on our L26 trailer where we will be restoring her. We continued to work on our Mirror racing dinghies in preparation for the TSC Classic first weekend of December and got some sailing in on the L26 and the Bosuns.
Tuesday 18.10.22
After our past week we had some time to focus out attention to our regatta boats. The Izivungu team is really focused and showing much more competitiveness on the water. We had a good days practice on the Mirror dinghies on the day.
Wednesday 19.10.22
Myself and Marcello have been discussing the keel boat sailing, and it was decided that he would collect the Donna Mia trailer in Cape Town as there has been another boat on it that was donated to Izivungu. Marcello collected it free of charge, a big thank you. Manual Mendez also donated very expensive boat paint to the school on this day that we collected the donated yacht, called a quarter tonner. We are really grateful for his support, Manual is one of the founder board members of Izivungu and he never gave up on us, even when the school was in dire straits. He was the one man I could turn too for help and always went the extra mile for us, he has been a father figure to many of us personally and supported students throughout the years with education and jobs at his factory in the V&A Waterfront, thank you Manual, you will always be the Izivunguvungu hero.
Thursday 20.10.22
I attended a meeting at the school in Mitchell's plain, most of the students made their own way to Simonstown to assist Eldred with some boat repairs, Simamkele also continued work on his mirror dinghy.
Friday 21.10.22
The forecast was for stronger south easterly winds for the next 4 to 5 days. On this day it was still looking good for some sailing. We had Asanathi busy with coaching the students of Lawhill Simonstown School on their L26 and had a group on our bosun dinghies. This was the first time the Lawhill group experienced some strong wind sailing, while the Izivungu guys were having fun times and enjoying some strong wind sailing.
Saturday 22.10.22
The wind was now too strong for sailing and students were doing work on their boats mast, the change room area was painted and cleaned up. After lunch students enjoyed some swimming and diving as they do best.
I'm looking forward to the new week coming as I have a person who will potentially donate good second-hand tyres for our L26 trailer, I will be seeing him on Tuesday.
Mathew Willimberg from Strandfontein helped us with the use of his outboard engine during Spring Regatta. He has his own spray-painting business from home. I will be returning his engine and chat about potential boat restoration that he is willing to help us with.
