August 07, 2022

This was a week filled with meetings with the local schools, re-establishing the interest in sailing and False Bay Yacht Club regarding their Spring Regatta.  We also continued our beginer dinghy sailing program in the light breeze, carried out on-going maintenance and finished the week off with some house keeping in the store.

TUESDAY

Had a meeting with the sports facilitator at Kleinberg Primary School, and he confirmed that there still remains a great interest from their students where sailing is regarded however as explained to him, our transportation situation restricts us to collect 13 students at a time ( we are still using Mike Oldhams little van). Collected donated food from senior student Marlon Jones' wife for all the Izivungu sailing students. We are very grateful for their donation, this would be the fourth meal donation from the couple.

WEDNESDAY

Beginner students are showing alot of improvement in their sailing capabilities. Namely two brothers Simimkele from Ukanyo Primary School and Siseko from Masi High School. There will be six capable helmsman for the next Mirror Dinghy event, which will include the 2 beginner student brothers. We anticipate 8 to 9 boats to compete in the above mentioned event.

THURSDAY

Liaised with a member from the Falsebay Yacht club regarding the upcoming Spring Regatta. They would like us to participate in it this year in our L26 Donna Mia) and will be paying the entry fee and sponsoring meals for Izivungu students as well. Beginner sailing was done the afternoon.

FRIDAY

Did prep work for the Izivunguvungu Saturday League Racing. Older students went sailing. Alot of potential interest from older students for the Saturday League Racing.

SATURDAY

Saturday League Racing canceled due to too much wind. We then rearranged our sail storeroom and did an inventory on our sails. The reason for this is that we would like to create a space to repairs masts. We also moved our changing area to outside, as we need a space to hang our wetsuits. We also designated an area for our potential gardening project. We would like to start growing our own vegetables again.
